Designed for athletes in the Training to Compete and Training to Win stages of CKC's Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, this program provides comprehensive physical preparation for athletes pursuing success at provincial, national, and international levels.

Athletes will follow a detailed yearly training plan (YTP), with training focused on developing the sport-specific strength, endurance, speed, and physical capacities required for high-level competition.

Training includes Olympic weightlifting and other strength training, canoe/kayak ergometer sessions, swimming, running, XC skiing, circuit training, and mobility work. Athletes will also receive guidance in areas such as sport nutrition, goal setting, mental performance, and training management.

This program requires a high level of commitment, consistency, and personal accountability. Athletes are expected to take increasing responsibility for their training preparation, recovery, and communication with coaches as they work toward their performance goals.

  • Program Fee: $875

  • Athlete Age Group: 2027 U15 or older (born 2012 or earlier)

  • Target Athletes: Athletes pursuing Canoe Kayak Canada National Championship finals and international competition in 2027 and/or 2028.

  • Commitment: 7–9 training sessions per week, Monday through Saturday, including Saturday aerobic training, following a structured yearly training plan.

  • Program Dates: November 16, 2026 – May 1, 2027

Please Note the Following:

Swimming – The CPCC will rent the Carleton Place Pool for training sessions 1–2 times per week between November and March. Swimming complements the physical demands of sprint canoe/kayak by developing cardiovascular fitness and providing an alternative training environment. Sessions are adapted to athlete abilities and experience. CKO Sprint also hosts an annual canoe club swim meet in December.

XC Skiing – Cross-country skiing is a valuable aerobic development tool used extensively in high-performance sprint canoe/kayak programs. It allows athletes to develop endurance and overall physical conditioning while providing an alternative to the repetitive demands of other training activities. Equipment and trail passes are the responsibility of athletes and families where applicable. CPCC coaches can assist with equipment recommendations before the season begins. CKO Sprint also hosts an annual canoe club XC ski race in February.

Saturday Training – Saturday morning aerobic sessions are an important component of the High Performance Development program and count toward the weekly training total. These sessions focus primarily on longer-duration aerobic training through activities such as XC skiing, running, and rowing. Locations and activities vary depending on weather conditions and athlete abilities. Some sessions may be completed independently, following training instructions provided by coaches.

Holiday Closures: The club will be closed December 22 – January 4 and March 14–21. Athletes will receive training guidance to follow independently during these breaks as part of their ongoing training plans.
